The first, and most anticipated, Pokémon set of 2025 drops in just one week!
The next Pokémon TCG set release is almost upon us, and I don't know if I can contain my excitement. Prismatic Evolutions is the fourth special expansion of the Scarlet & Violet Era and continues our fascination with Terastallized Pokémon in the most fan favorite way possible—with a selection of furry friends. We'll be getting Eevee and all the beloved Eeveelutions as brand new Stellar Tera Pokémon ex!
But that's not the only thing worth being excited about when it comes to Prismatic Evolutions—here's everything you need to know about the upcoming set so far.
When Does Prismatic Evolutions Release?
Prismatic Evolutions will release on January 17th 2025. As a special set, there's no official corresponding prerelease and you won't be able to purchase individual booster packs of the set. The initial wave of releases will include the beloved Elite Trainer Box, which sports an exclusive Eevee alternate-art illustration rare card.
We'll also see a selection of secondary products for Prismatic Evolutions releasing throughout the year.

What Pokémon are in Prismatic Evolutions?
The announcement from The Pokémon Company International shared that Prismatic Evolutions will contain:
Over 175 cards
Eevee evolutions as Stellar Tera Pokémon ex
Six ACE SPEC Trainer cards
10 Pokémon ex cards
15 Tera Pokémon ex cards
12 Ultra Rare Supporter cards
32 Special Illustration Rares
5 Hyper Rare Gold Etched Pokémon ex cards

While the full set hasn't officially been revealed, Prismatic Evolutions is expected to be made up of cards from the Japanese set Terastal Festival ex and the recent set of Generations Start Decks, which means Eevee and all its evolutions. In terms of official reveals, we've seen Palafin ex, Larry's Skill and the infamous Special Illustration Rare of Umbreon ex so far—but that heavily suggests that we should be expecting the following Pokémon (amongst others!):
Sylveon ex
Espeon ex
Leafeon ex
Vaporeon ex
Glaceon ex
Flareon ex
Jolteon ex
Eevee ex
Pikachu ex
Roaring Moon ex
Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex
Teal Mask Ogerpon ex
What is the New Reverse Holo Pattern in Prismatic Evolutions?
Well, it's not exactly new—Pokémon is bringing over the holo patterns from Japan's Terastal Festival ex

Prismatic Evolutions contains three different Reverse Holo patterns: Poké Balls, Master Balls, and the typical Reverse Holofoil pattern featuring an outline of the Pokémon type in the background. This means that in order to complete a master set, you'll need to acquire four copies of all the Common, Uncommon, and Rare Pokémon in the set. If we follow the same trends as Japan, the Master Ball foils are likely to become the most sought after cards in Prismatic Evolutions!
What are the Chase Cards in Prismatic Evolutions?
So, which cards are likely to cause fights and price spikes in the Eeveelution-focused set? The full card list has yet to be revealed, so far now, we can only speculate based on the prices of cards from Japan's Terastal Festival ex. Terastal Festival ex was a "High Class" reprint set, so it had a plethora of collectibles inside. In Prismatic Evolutions, players will likely find a selection of highly requested reprints of the most impactful cards from the last eighteen months, many of which are rocking stunning new artwork...

... but let's be honest. It's all about those Special Illustration Rares and Master Ball foils of the various Eeveelutions. Umbreon is currently ruling the roost in both departments, with the Master Ball foil just inching out the jawdropping kaleidoscope of colors present in the other. Beyond that, Sylveon, Espeon, Jolteon, Leafeon and Vaporeon all find at least one of their variations comfortably inside the top ten most valuable cards from Terastal Festival ex.
Closing Thoughts!
As it stands right now, Prismatic Evolutions is shaping up to be one of the most impactful and exciting Pokémon releases in recent memory—exactly what you want from a special set release. I can't wait to see some of these beautiful new Eeveelutions and while pull rates could be brutal (think Evolving Skies 2.0), it will make the set that much more popular and help it maintain value for a long time to come.
